The 23 signals behind every rating

Fifteen are scored on every horse in every UK and Irish race, every day. Eight more are yours to switch on: on Max they join the same maths and score every runner alongside the rest. Stronger evidence earns more points, and the points add into one score:

The scale runs to the mid-500s for an exceptional profile; across a season the average runner scores around 270. The highest-rated horse in each race becomes the bot’s ★ pick, and a “Best in race” count shows how many signals a runner leads outright.

Each one counts on its own: horse form, trainer form and jockey form are separate signals, and so are the course, going and combination records. Every dial appears in the simulator, so anything the score uses, you can re-weight yourself.

And the card carries even more

Beyond the scored signals, every runner’s card shows the data a serious punter would otherwise chase across three or four sites: draw, weight and class, official rating alongside Racing Post Rating and Top Speed, live prices from the major bookmakers with the best price highlighted, and every market move from the opening show. One card, the whole picture - very few places bring all of it together.

Why transparency beats a black box

Open any runner in the dashboard and the score breaks down line by line: +85 for official rating, +50 for course record, and so on, with a marker on every signal the horse leads. When a pick loses, the results page tells you what the scoring liked about the horse that beat it. Ratings you can interrogate are ratings you can actually learn from - that’s the difference between a scoring system and a pundit with a spreadsheet.

Tested against 15,000+ real picks

The system’s record is public: 15,750 picks rated over the last 12 months, and at the top of the card 27% winners and 54% placed from 1,021 runs in the last 30 days. There is a clear dial effect too - picks scoring 400+ win around 27% of the time, 450+ around a third. Every claim on this page is checkable inside the app, race by race, and the simulator will happily re-run the whole record under your own weights if you think you can tune it better.
