The day's top score

Today’s top-rated horse, and every day’s result.

The single highest score the model gives any runner in any UK or Irish race today. Not a hunch and not a choice: a rule, applied to picks that are already published, with every past day's top score settled in public, winners and losers.

A race’s score is frozen once it is off. Races still to run keep moving with non-runners and the market, so the top score can change until the last race of the day starts. At the end of the day it is exactly the figure the record below counts.

What the word means

In racing, a nap is the one selection a newspaper racing writer rates above all the others on the day. The word is short for napoleon, and racing pages keep naps tables: each writer names one horse a day and the results run all season.

We do not name a nap. What we have instead is a rule: the single highest score the model gives any runner in any UK or Irish race that day. Ties go to the shorter price, then the earlier race. It is picked the same way as every other score, so it is settled in public alongside them.

Recomputed from the bot’s frozen pre-race scores using the rule above, one top score per day, from 28 June 2025. This page is new: the top score was not published day by day before it existed. Placed is counted on each race’s own each-way terms. Most selections lose, including the day’s top score.
