What a good tip actually looks like
Every day thousands of punters search for horse racing tips for today, and most of what they find is a name with no working attached. A good tip has three properties: you can see the reasoning, you can see the tipster's full record (losers included), and it arrives early enough to be useful. If any of the three is missing, you are not being tipped - you are being marketed at.
The reasoning is the part almost everyone hides, because most tips do not have any that survives daylight. A horse being 'well handicapped' or 'catching the eye last time' is a feeling. Trainer strike rate at the course, the horse's record on today's going, the market move since opening - those are facts, and facts can be weighed.
Why scored tips beat hunches
A scoring system forces consistency. Using today's tips without fooling yourself
First, judge any tips source over a sample, not a Saturday. A hot week means nothing; 13,000 settled picks mean something. Second, respect the market: a 2.5 shot winning 40% of the time is losing you money, which is why yield (profit on turnover) matters more than strike rate alone. Third, decide your staking before you look at the card, not after - rules made in advance are the only rules that survive a losing run.
